At the same time though, there are some players who will beat others almost regardless of army comp. So, I don't think we can base it purely on either one

base what on either what?

Just because some players do well doesnt mean we shouldnt compensate for differing power levels. Player skill will still come through.

Personally, I say we should stick with banding

its still mostly there if we want it. From comp but without having to artificially fill bands.

And it solves the problem about low band 1 vs high band 2 getting hit with disadvantages.

I would prefer option #2. Go back to the bonus scoring you had for the first Buckeye and I'll be happy. It had extra points for playing against armies two bands apart.

battle points seem to be popular on here. Im ok with either

For the first quote, I was just trying to say match ups are more likely to be ideal if we can pit people with like armies and like records together.

What if we didn't give a bonus for one band apart? (Like Mike just suggested) That way there's no issue of two lists that are actually close together but are in separate bands. I don't think anyone would argue high band 3 is similar to low band 1.

Fighting one band up is still a tough battle, but it shouldn't be as nearly impossible as two bands up. Although we could offer some tiny incentive for one band up (like +1 point if you win) to acknowledge that there likely is a difference.

Id rather there be a slight bonus, at least tactical for band 2. Otherwise why not just bring band 1?

Good thing we're not relying on sportsmanship and the spirit of the game.

It might have come up somewhere in this thread but I haven't noticed it..

Do we know the exact scores we're using yet? Like 15 pts a win, 10 draw, 5 loss? And then how much of a factor sports and painting and whatever other scores we might want to add in will be?

Having those numbers set in stone would make all this discussion a lot more relevant. Maybe a bonus in points would be too big a swing. Maybe it wouldn't. Maybe making a victory easier would be a much bigger swing in points and more desirable. Maybe having a comp score instead of a bonus would do the trick. Can't really say for sure until we have some baseline for what the scoring will be.

Tenatively looking at 16/13/10/8/6 for wins with 3 BPs per game.

Sports was 25pts with bonus points from players at the end, same as last year.

Painting will be 25pts

Those getting votes for generals choice will get a bonus up to 3pts.
