hey mike. i was nosing around. Hope you don't mind.
These really are awesome. The faces of the squigs are great but I think that's the easier part. I think the subtleness of the robes is where the reall brillance of these models lies.
Great job and it's odvious that your painting is reaching an even higher level than before.
Any plans for a movement tray or display base? i think something like that would really tie it all together.

Hi Kevin! Its been a while from when I last heard from you.
Thanks for the complements.
I do have HUGE plans for the display base. I am going to make a cave looking base for the lighting effects to play even a larger role. Imagine the staligmites from the bases carried out to the base forming almost walls out to the sides. If I get even more ambitious I may even through in a snotling or two.
As a side note, I am now ready to restart working on these hoppers. I have some distractions, including a 1-month long painting contest at the Krystal Keep where you had to start with and unpainted unit (I did some wolf riders). I also went to some tournaments. Now that those are out of the way it is back to the hoppers... starting this weekend.

I have made more progress on the hoppers. The green skin is now pretty much done, and I am almost half way through painting the black robes. After that I have a few details (like the eyes) and the bases to do and then the miniatures are *almost* done.
The part I am dreading is to add in the reflection of the flames. I can ruin hours (days) of work if I don't get it right.
This weekend I'll also start working on the display base. First part will be staining the wood stand.
Pictures will also be coming this weekend.

The black robes are now done, and now I will start working on the details. I plan to start working on the bases this weekend.
When I get the chance, I'll take some pictures. Probably won't be until this weekend.

Started work on the display base. When I put the miniatures on the base I realized that I still have a bit of work to do with regards to making sure the lighting angles are right, but the hoppers are pretty much done now. I'll have this project done in time for Chicago GD.

Sorry I haven't posted any new pictures of my hoppers. I found out that the new kittens were using my light tent as a cat bed and there is fur everywhere. I wasn't very impressed. And I haven't gone around to cleaning up the mess.
Right now I am painting the display base. I have to get the base done for next weekend... Games Day Chicago is a week from today. Once the base is done I will do a final check on the lighting of the miniatures and then it is off to the races.

I'll probably just "lift" the pictures from the GD site if I win.

Got runner up, but didn't win
When I asked the judges why the main reason was because for some reason the paint chipped on a couple of the squig zits. I was pissed at myself because I had double checked a couple days ago. Somehow over the two days before the event the paint got chipped.
Otherwise I think I had a VERY good chance at bronze.

That stinks. I would have put money down on you placing.
Any chance your kittys will get out of the way long enough for you to take some pics?
